Live Scoring

Make sure to start the round by going to your home tournament page, then clicking the "Round Setup" tab and then "Enter scores". This will make your round active and allow scores to populate on the leaderboard.

On the first page where you begin entering the number of teams, players, and pairing sizes, make sure these numbers are correct. If they are not exactly how you want them, you will have issues when trying to create the template. Then reference the help document that will walk you through setting up a template and attaching your teams/players.

In a 3 round tournament, the player has to be withdrawn in each of the 3 rounds. Make sure select the 'WD' option in the dropdown next to the final score that is automatically marked "A", then click the check mark to confirm it, then click save. The row should then turn black. If he/she WDs during round 1, he/she will have to be put into the next 2 rounds and withdrawn each day.

You will have to contact us to do this for you. If you've already played a round and entered scores, be sure to double check these scores once we make the swap.

Once you have closed out the round for your last round, you are good to go.

Rankings

Rankings movement is dependent upon beating teams that are ranked better than you and/or beating teams that have a close comparative advantage to you. Let's say you are ranked 50th in the country and win an event that has 15 teams but none of the teams are inside the top 100. It is very unlikely that you will move up significantly or at all. We already know you are better than those teams. Conversely, lets say you are still ranked 50th and finished 6th in a field of 15. The five teams you lost to are inside the top 15 and the teams you beat are all inside the top 45. This is how a ranking improves. It shows that you belong with the competition that you just played against.

A comparative win simply tells you whether the data is in your favor against another team. Our ranking is ordered by who has the most comparative wins. It is very likely that your team can have a comparative win against a team ranked ahead of you while you can also have a comparative loss against a team that you are ranked ahead of. There is a four-filter system to see who has the comparative data in their favor and it is comprised of head-to-head competition, common opponents, 2nd level common opponents, and finally a comparison of your team's adjusted scoring average, strength of schedule, and average drop score. For a more detailed description of every filter, please check out our "Coaches Corner" section.

Scoring average has little to no effect on rankings. Every golf course is different. The conditions are different every day. The circumstances are different every day. Simply shooting low scores does not guarantee a higher ranking. What we try to focus on are two things. Who did you beat and how much did you beat them by?

It is important to realize how the rankings are ordered. We simply order the teams by number of TOTAL comparative wins. It is very likely that you have a comparative win against the team ahead of you that you have beaten three times. But how many times have you beaten teams 21-44? How many times have you lost to teams with not as good of a ranking as your own? We liken it to any other sport. Let’s say an NFL has a 13-3 record but two of their losses were to a 6-10 team in their division in the only two times they played that year. Is the 6-10 better than the 13-3 team? The answer is no. There is more value in beating more of the teams you have played. Not in beating one team that is ranked higher than you.

The strength of schedule number that golfstat publishes on public reports and coaches reports does not effect a team or players rankings very much. It shows what the average adjust scoring average of a player in your tournaments. For the rankings calculation, this only comes into play in the 4th and final filter. This filter rarely is used as most comparisons have enough head-to-head comparisons and common opponents to decide. However, playing quality opponents is important. Playing your best against quality opponents has a positive impact on rankings. Not playing well against competition worse than your current ranking negatively effects your ranking.
